I don't know that the Ruger #1 is available in .600 Nitro Express. I have seen them in .458 Lott and I do own and shoot one in .458 Winchester Magnum (which I love to shoot).

I don't know if you can have a barrel made in .600 Nitro AND(?) fitted to a Ruger #1. I'm not sure it would be safe as the Nitro Express loads generate more pressure than the standard magnum loads. I'd check with a competent gunsmith/barrel maker and Ruger first.

Have you considered the cost of the Nitro Express ammo? My .458 costs approx. $5. a shell. If cost is not a factor a guy named Butch Searcy in Boron, Calif. will build you a .600 Nitro Express double-rifle. Be prepared to pay more than $8,500 for this American made English styled double-rifle. English models are more than $40,000.

Final note: .470 Nitro Express Federal ammo goes for about $267 a box of twenty and .700 Nitro Express ammo is approx. $150 EACH bullet. The .600 Nitro Express would fall somewhere in between. You might consider sticking with the Ruger in .458 Win. Mag. or .458 Lott if you want a bit more umph!

Butch Searcy's address is:

Searcy Enterprises
P. O. Box 584

Good luck.
