You don't have to be 18 to enter into a financial contract. Most banks won't enter into such a contract simply because it is not legal to collect from a minor.

There are many places that will allow teens to get a checking account with a debit card, however, the best places are credit unions because they won't nickel and dime you to death.

Your best bet is to find a credit union that serves your community. You will need a parent or guardian to sign with you. The larger the credit union, the more teen services it will have.

Not all banks have the same programs, but most banks will let you open up a checking account if your parent is on there with you. You will be the primary account holder and your parent will be responsible for any mistakes you make, like bouncing a check or being over drawn. I just opened my daughter an account this way and she's 16yrs. old. It's a great way to get started and your parents can help you manage you account and your money. Dont be careless though, money is not something that falls off of trees or grows in the back yard.

Have one of your parents go in with you to open the account. I know that you can be any age for that. I THINK you have to be 16 to get the bank card though. Call a few banks in your area and ask! :-)

Most banks will. Depending on how old a 'teen' you are you might have to go in with your parents, and they might have sign some stuff for you, but generally, a lot of banks will give teens an account.

Credit card? No, you have to be 18 to enter into a contract.

Debit card? My kids have VisaBuxx cards which I load with their allowance once a month. They have a PIN number and don't have to worry about losing money in their pockets -- and the card looks pretty cool to their friends, too.

If your parents are willing, they can add you as an "authorized user" on their credit cards and the bank will give you a card with your name on it. Rich kids all have them.

You can only get a bank card if you are 18. Stay away from credit cards as long as you can. Buy a car on credit when you are ready but stay away from those high interest rate credit cards. The credit card company is your friend now, but the firstr time you have a problem they will turn their back on you and become your worse nightmare.
