Because the more of them you have, the more money you collect in the offering plate!

when I was catholic, mass was important because it protected you - that's what you were taught to believe...the church was your only salvation, you had to attend - at least on Sunday - or you'd burn. I think the importance of mass is different for every person. Now that people think for themselves and know better, each person has their own reasons for attending. Perhaps it's out of habit or guilt or that feeling of requirement or simply apperances. Personally, I've never found that I learn anything from church service, whether it be catholic or other - I have always found it teadious. I learn more from self study and discussing things with other people.

Hi there, I am a Catholic and here is why Mass is important to me.
Please do not pay any heed to that rubbish about collections, everyone seems to have an axe to grind these days.
It stems back to the last supper when Jesus give us His body and blood and said,Do this in memory of Me, and later sacrificed Himself on the Cross.
Now in the Mass the Catholic Priest reinacts this sacrifice on the altar but it is a bloodless sacrifice by the fact that having died once for our sins, Jesus cannot die again
We also believe that during the consecration of the Mass, when the Priest holds up the bread and wine in obediance to Jesus command at the last supper, Jesus by the action of the Holy Spirit, changes what was ordinary, into His precious Body and Blood, in other words they really become as such.
We call this the Holy Eucharist and do as Jesus told us, unless you eat my body and drink my blood you shall not have life within you, and again when He said, He who eats my Body and drinks My Blood shall not die and I shall raise him up on the last day.
So the Mass is the believing community coming together to celebrate and partake in this holy mystery.
Now I have related this to you to help you with your school work, and not to cause offense to anyone.
Best wishes with your work.

Mass is the re-enactment of Christs life and death, and Catholics are supposed to go once a week on Saturday or Sunday. They also should go to Confession once a month and afterwards recieve Holy communion.

Mass is just the name of the Catholic Church Service. Church service is not just important to Catholics, but to every person who believes in their faith. From a Christian point of view (which I presume will be the same for Catholics) it is important to openly praise and worship God (as in song), listen to the word of God (as in the preaching), take up the Sacrement as a reminder of what Jesus did for us and to pray - all of this is important in keeping our relationship with God as strong as possible.

Mass is important to catholics because it is where they redo what happened at the last supper. At the last supper Jesus said to his disciples: "do this in memory of me" ... so that is why every week on a sunday we have mass so that we fulfil what Jesus asked us to do.
