My daughter has recently suffered from a cold and had a high fever. She is now a lot better but has a yellow discoloured tongue. She has not eaten for a few days only had coke and the odd bowl of chicken soup. Should I take her back to the doctor or could it be from the fever she had.

The yellow tongue occured straight after the cold and therefore is related to that.

A diet consisting of soup and coke has probably cause some colouration of the tongue. Try brushing with a toothbrush to see if it comes away. If it does then no problem.

I really doubt it but the only other thing it could be is oral candida. This can occur if she has got antibiotics or was very poorly. Removing the colouration should lead to bleeding in this case. If this does occur see your doctor.

Finally. I am a trainee doctor and so know what I am talking about. A message to other people answer this and other health questions - this is serious so dont just guess an answer when you have no idea what so ever

it could be from the soup and coke first make her brush her teeth and tongue if it comes off then I wouldn't worry about it much, it could also be from the drainage but if it doesn't brush/scrape off then I would atleast call her doctor and see what he may suggest you do.

Sound like she needs more fluids try giving her small cups of cordial every hour and see if she can keep the fluids down.

It'll go away....It's just a side effect of the illness and the meds.
