An 18th century Swedish zoologist undertook the classification of animals in the known world. That system is still used today. Animals are placed in "families" and then species are named. A fox is a member of the cannidae (dog) family, the cat a member of the felidae family. Other members of that family are lions, tigers, pumas etc. and they are separate species of that family. The scientific classification of species is that two species cannot mate and produce viable offspring.
So foxes and cats are very far removed from one another and there is no mating between them.

Naw, a fox has 38 chromosomes and a cat has 19. Couldn't happen. A fox and a cat would avoid each other or if they had to, fight. You just have an unusual looking part-Siamese cat.

A fox belongs to the family of dogs. Therefore breeding with a cat is impossible.

You could have a somali????
The Somali is a breathtaking cat to behold. It bears an uncanny resemblance to a little fox, with its large ears, masked face, full ruff and bushy tail. The Somali’s wild, feral look is what immediately draws fascinated attention.

I seriously doubt that that could happen. It could be though, that a wild cat, breeded with the cat, and you cat just got the "odder" physical traits. Also look at the personality, if it has that sly fox attitude it might be But I EXTREMELY DOUBT IT!

Sure -- wild cats mate with foxes all the time. That's where ferrets come from.

I don't think so. They are different families. Your cat is probably a strange mix with a silver tabby or sth.
