You can use your check card -aka: Debit card - to pay for anything any where as long as it has a VISA or MasterCard logo on it. Without those logos probably not except for your bank's ATM because they can not process the transactions. Debit cards are now the same as a credit card, except for accruing your charges the automatically "debit" it from your checking account. Be careful, most banks will allow you to over draw by $200 or more with a Visa logo... without warning and charge you for it, anywhere from 25-35$ per transaction. Make sure the websites you use it on also have a little padlock on the bottom right hand corner or somewhere on the page you are entering the number to guarantee it is a secure website so no one steals your card #.

As long as the card has a Visa of MasterCard logo. The merchant can't tell if it is a credit card or a debit card. That is why stores always ask "Credit or Debit". A check card is another name for a debit card.
