I may be in the minority of police officers but this is my opinion.
I think all drugs should be legalized and delt with and regulated the same way alcohol is. It would save a whole bunch of tax money that we waste every year on the failed "war on drugs".
Legalizing drugs would decrease the crime rate because the cost would come down. The addicts wouldn't have to steal as much to get their drugs. The perfect example is the Netherlands. Most drugs are legal there and they have a low crime rate.
Another benefit would be a lower rate of drug use. Half the thrill is the fact that it's illegal. Once people realize that all it does is screw up their head they'll stop using it. They don't call it dope for nothing.
It will never happen here though because there is so much profit being made by organized crime and they control the politicians who make the laws. So the next time you see a politician saying that drugs should never be legalized, you'll know where his campaign dollars are coming from.

In my opinion, neither marijuana, nor alcohol should be legal.

This is why:

As a firefighter/EMT, I have enountered an incredible amount of stupid people. People who think marijuana is safe, or is not harmful.

While I think it is a safer thing to do then cigarettes, it is still not right. Marijuana is very easily laced with other drugs. And mixtures of drugs can often lead to death. (I've seen this)

Alcohol is a drug, believe it or not. Often times, alcohol and marijuana are mixed. This is where most of the drug related deaths I've seen occur.

But, as a very wise drug enforcement officer once stated, "I've only got 2 rules for this class"

1. I'm always right.
2. People want to get stoned.

I agree with john, look at the war on drugs. Who is winning? I think alcohol should be illegal before marijuana, marijuana does have medical properties, and it is a hemp that makes cloth that is more durable than canvas and better than cotton, and it is a weed, grows wonderfully by itself. there would be lots of revenue in it if it was legal

I personally think the the Government should make it legal and tax the heck out of it. Like alcohol and cigarettes it has to have a federal stamp on it.

It should be decriminalized. That means that you should be able to posess a certain amount. I don't think anyone needs more then an ounce of marijuana. Anything more your smoking a little to much.

No. I could go into why but that has all been done and I couldn't change anyone's mind. I just know from experience what it does to people.

For dumb issues like this we've got problems of drug smuggling in the border and all illegal immigration issues that go along with it....shame on you.
Can't you get it? Drugs are the real source of income for terrorist activities and all those who hate this country and the rest of the western nations.

Get real, will you!
