Earlier I asked Muslims if they really think it's OK to kill someone if they leave Islam

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ampsffayd2nvwMaY.u.Ux0vsy6IX?qid=20061028215216AAxmo3n

They confirm it, and justify it in many different ways. Very disturbing. The Koran never actually says "if someone leaves Islam, KILL them". This demonstrates PERSONAL CHOICE.

What I really want to know is what GOOD does it do to MURDER someone who is seeking to beleive in God they way they CHOOSE?

Sad, the people who support it won't say WHY, they just say "cuz the Bible says to do it too!" I weep for the future

All muslims that confirm that Allah or prophet Mohammed ordered muslims to kill anyone leaves islam, are wrong!
the truth that who said that is abu Bakr who was khalifa after prophet Muhammed died ..and he imposed that cos ppl started to leave islam and fight those who were still muslims or still weak in their faith..so he thought it's better for islam to fight those rebelions who were not even good muslims.

other than that case ...we are not allowed to kill anyone for changing his faith even for leaving Islam. and Allah said he will answer repent any time .
pls don't ask the ignorant..search yourself to know the truth.

Read something about the origins of Islam! It is a very good tactic indeed if you are a small tribe competing with others who are not quite so ruthless, you tend not to get so many people leaving the faith for rivals!

And by the way it says the same thing in the Bible.

Edit:
You asked the question and don't like the answer?
It is evolution writ small, a religion that has the ultimate punishment for leaving it tends to lose fewer people to rival religions, hence all the Abrahamic faiths have commandments to kill those who try and leave the faith, one reason they survived as religions.

To those who have been through the enlightenment that seems barbaric, but 2,000 and even 300 years ago it did not (Spanish Inquisition anyone?). It is still however in all the holy books. look it up.

I think that when we hear of this practise it really speaks volumes as to how frightening this mentality is. In my opinion, just another form of 'group think' and because the 'greater' accept it then it some how makes it okay to practise it.

Absolutely nothing good comes from it.

That's why I prefer my religion where God COMMANDS us that we shall not kill and that all judgement and vengeance is His.

I've been educating myself on people who leave Islam, there's lots of webpages/information. The more I read the more I feel sorry for these people and that they are very lost and led astray. It must be very hard for them to try to "undo" the very beliefs that they are raised up in.

This is one that I've been reading recently:

Okay ..
Before I enlighten you about ur question .. I need you to be open-minded & not to judge before u know the whole truth.

It's like this. In Islam each & every human has the choice to decide on what religion he/she wants, but it is before he/she decides to take up Islam as a religion.

Islam allows a person who leaves Islam to be killed to preserve the dignity of Islam. Islam does not want this religion to be made as a joke, by which he/she can decides when to liv by the tenets of Islam & when not to.

However, it is not so easy to kill just because he/she leaves Islam. There are procedures in which to be taken before the killing can be done. So if u think we can just put a bullet in somebody's head because he/she leaves Islam, the u r dead wrong.

confident, only as do Christians and Jews. background exhibits that when any custom embraces the perception that theirs is the only God they go directly to purpose to break all different cultures and impose their "One real faith" at something of the worldwide via any potential available. The Bible incredibly condones slavery and the homicide of non-believers in the previous testomony. The Christian and Muslim faiths the two endorsed and practiced the enslavement of non-believers and used the "Spreading of God's notice" to justify each and every thing from the Slave commerce to the tried Genocide of the community American people in the nineteenth century to the tried Genocide of the Jews and East Europeans in the twentieth century, to the 9/11 attack and the present Wars in the middle East. the only difference between the Taliban and assorted American Christian church homes is that in the time of American they don't have the army forces mandatory to enable them to flee with that form of habit.

To murder an adversary is to have one less adversary in the world. Someone who leaves a faith is considered an adversary, someone who may hurt the cause. It's wrong and belies a barbaric, insecure belief structure, in my opinion.

You said "They confirm it", how do you know all the answerers were Muslims? besides not all of them confirmed it (I read them all). We do not go about killing those who leave Islam. If some fanatics do, these are washed-out brains, but no Muslims State Law inflicts the death penalty.
I hope one day non-Muslims will refrain from judging us all by the acts of fanatics in our religion. They will not stop killing us (sane Muslims) once they know how much we hate them.

KJV: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

it would seem to intimidate the remaining population, to stay in a religion and a way of belief, even if they want to deviate from it, they must deal with the possibility of being murdered.
I am glad Jesus never told his followers anything close to that.
