Infidel means "unfaithful". To Muslims, Jews and Christians have a corrupted religion--they're infidels. And to some Muslims, other brands of Islam fall into that same catagory. (That's a big part of what's fueling the sectarian violence in Iraq.) A "heathen" is the same as a pagan. It's person who does not worship the same God that these three religions worship.

A heathen is someone who holds to the worship of the Nordic gods. When Christianity came along, "heathen" was turned into a snarl word meaning "uncivilized" or "irreligious".

An infidel is someone who is not faithful to a certain religion. Technically, everyone is an infidel to someone else.

A heathen is a guy or woman who would not be attentive to or obey the authentic God (2 Kings 17:15; Matt. 6:7). An infidel is guy or woman who rejects faith, as Christianity. Freethinker, atheist, skeptic, unbeliever, agnostic. So it extremely is the two rejecting God.

Essentially they mean the same: a person who does not accept the god of one of the major religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam). However, there are nuances or connotations that go beyond the literal definition. Christians tend to use the term "heathen" to refer to anyone who rejects their religious beliefs, whereas "infidel" is the term more commonly used by Muslims. Please note that the individuals referred to do not customarily refer to themselves in this way. They are more likely to use the word "pagan," which doesn't carry quite the same negative freight.

Isn't a heathen someone who worships the Norse Gods?
Infidel is a non-muslim, I think.

Maybe a heathen has a Pagan type simple belief system and an infidel has a more elaborate and mainstream belief system, that is not the 'approved' one. HA HA!

Infidel literally means "having a portion of the truth" although wiki only mentions it meaning this in the Catholic tradition, which makes sense I guess

Heathen means "not jewish or christian" - (back in the day it was used interchangably with "pagan")
