The November issue of Wired magazine has on its cover "The New Atheism...No Heaven. No Hell. Just Science. Inside the Crusade Against Religioin".
I found it a bit strange for that subject to be covered by a tech mag, but it was very interesting. They had articles about Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Greg Graffin (a punk rocker who writes songs about atheism), Daniel Dennett, Penn & Teller, and Warren Allen Smith who are considered the new faces of atheism. I thought it was a very interesting read, so I thought I would point that out.

It makes sense in a tech mag, to me, anyway. I did a paper for a cyberpunk lit class a couple years back on the nature of spirituality and consciousness in the computer age--very interesting subject to explore from that angle.

May I point out something...probably off the basic course of your question?
Did you know, to believe that science is the be-all, end-all is, by definition, against all the tenets of Science, defined as a body of techniques for investigating phenomena and acquiring new knowledge, as well as for correcting and integrating previous knowledge.
To flatly state that there is no God does not allow for correcting and integrating previous knowledge, nor does it allow for investigation or the acquisition of new knowledge.
Denial of God's existence does not allow for inclusion of archaeological evidence, or the probabililty of about 40 different authors over a period of hundreds upon hundreds of years managing to weave together such agreeing truths; nor does it answer the question: why would they conspire to deceive us with a lie?
Denial of God's existence by science also does not allow for the inclusion of fulfilled prophecy ... and about 40% of the Bible was prophetic when it was written. Considering the difficulty modern-day meteorologists have with forecasting weather accurately, that is pretty amazing.
Denial of God's existence by science also does not allow for the inclusion of miracles or the phenomenon of changed lives.
Did you know that once science thought writing was not in existence in Moses' day? And it was not until the mid-1800's that the term dinosaur was coined? Until then, they were dragons!
Even in our modern era, it was once said that there was 'probably a world market for about five computers' ..and that was the chairman of IBM! It was also once thought that heavier than air flying machines were impossible.
Science is always changing its beliefs .. it has to,or we would still be in the stone age. Science without faith is just a collection of facts, which are subject to change.
So, I guess they aren't always facts after all.

Glad to see that the marginalization of the disease of religion is being taken seriously. When you consider that the major "ultimate Truths" (religions) all have the end of the world as their stated and sought after goal, it is none to soon to squash them before they try to make it happen in an orgasmic delusional fulfillment of their "holy books" which were written by ancestors who thought the world was flat and disease was caused by demons.

I have noticed this new 'crusade' against religion. I believe I understand the motive behind it and it is concern that the 'religious' have too much power in our democracy. I am concerned about that too but not against religion per se. I might read that. Thanks.

Ahh, well, fads come and fads go.
God's been around much longer than "The New Atheism"...
Indeed, He is much older, even, than "the old atheism".....
