Run your anti-virus scan.
I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
Spybot scan the registry for threats
Ad-aware scans files for threats.
Good luck

upgrade to SP 2.. you are vulnerable to alot of sercurity holes in win xp with sp1.. Your games should work. being that all the other gamers are running sp2 and playing there games fine.

Go to Service Pack 2. Upgrade your computer at Microsoft upgrades. If you have large programs using a lot of RAM you may need to go to at least Gig of memory.

I've ran SP2 for 2 years, and Microsoft will be making everyone move over to it that still needs patches. You could go up to SP2 and then use Autopatcher to get you up to date on missing stuff. If you're running a pirate copy, consider switching over to Ubuntu Linux: I've been migrating people over to it lately.

There may be many reasons for this problem. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yk5zpr
