I am in a moral and legal dilemma. I know the 12 year old boy at our house was often starving at his home, doing back-breaking work, was not able to attend school due to his poverty and would probably have gone wrong, had we not hire him as a boy servant in our home. Now, we are from lower-middle income group ourselves and both of us are working hard. We cannot afford creche for 9-month old daughter, my mom is mostly sick and so is my grandmother. So, we cannot afford to hire a servant and help this boy at the same time. I am teaching him at home, he is well-fed here, has okay clothes to wear and has a nice roof upon him. We take care of his needs and all his childish desires. While I am at office, he mainly plays with our girl, helps my mom to take care of her and do cleaning and sweeping. We play and watch TV in the evening and he loves listening to fairy tales. But legally, I am committing a crime by hiring him. What should I do?

If he is living in your home with his moms permission and you are paying him, you dont have to define him as a servant or as someone 'working' for you. You can simply say you are paying him an allowance for chores around the house. There is no law against that. To be convicted of what you are describing would be incredibly difficult. Just stop calling him your servant.

Where do you live? If in the U.S. then why don't u legally adopt this boy?

So, don't 'hire' him, just take care of him...
