I had a rotator cuff surgery, one year ago.I was given STRONG narcotics to combat the pain. They, (I don't know which one) caused hives. I have been on Doxipin 10mg for about 7 months ....I am now down to one in P.M. Now that Autumn is here,I am worse than I was in August. Doctor said I am more suseptible to allergens because my system has been "changed."SO, now doctor has added one Allegra 180 in the A.M.
Area affected...my back and my under arms.....a burning sensation.

Is the Allegra working? I have never had hives as a reaction to medication but I have had them as an allergic reaction when I tried a different brand of deodorant. I think sometimes they can be stress-related, too, as I got them one time every day of the first week when I started a new job. I feel for you because hives are horrible! I used to carry a hair brush around to scratch myself with!! But once the doctor put me on Allegra, it helped tremendously. If the Allegra doesn't help, maybe you'll need to undergo allergy testing to figure out what exactly it is you're having the allergic reaction to and maybe take allergy shots. Good luck to you!!

I haven't but my son has. He had an ear infection and the doctor put him on penicillin and he broke out in severe hives. He had to be put on another anti-biotic and benedryl for the allergic reaction.
