Maybe you uninstalled your DVD decoder, or it got corrupted. Whatever the reason, Try reinstalling or go for another DVD software apart from WMP, like PowerDVD or WinDVD. If they still dont work, maybe there's a prob with ur DVD-drive.

Windows Media Player (wmp) cannot play DVDs out of the box. It needs a 3rd party decoder software installed. What I use is PowerDVD. Once you install Power DVD, wmp will be able to play DVDs. But in my opinion, wmp does a bad job of playing DVS because it handles the chapterisation and menu system of the DVD in an obscure and bizzare way that makes it difficult to use. And when using wmp to play DVDs, it's very slow to respond to commands. So I use Power DVD to play DVDs and wmp to play MPEGs (mpeg; mpg). Anything from version 4 will do.

NB: version 4 of PowerDVD is titled PowerDVD XP, then there's version 5 and then 6. I still use 5.
