we just painted our family room walls, how long should the paint dry before the furniture is moved back in?

It depends on the paint, weather conditions and etc. They do make an additive you could of had put into the paint so it would quick dry. But is too late now. I think it would dry in a few hours at most.

If you use latex, it will dry within the hour. Directions on the can tell how long to wait between coats (good judge of when to put back the furniture). Usually by the time you clean up your painting utensils, you should be able to put your furniture back. Just don't let it touch the walls. Even if the paint is dry to the touch (no longer tacky), it will take at least 30 days to "cure". If you put pictures on the walls before it is completely dry, they will stick. Also, don't wash them before the 30 days - the paint may wash off.

Depending on the paint(oil/latex).Oil 4 hrs.to th touch Latex 2 hrs to the touch. The actual curing time for either is 1-2 months.Also,humidity plays a key roll.

Looking at how long it's been since you ask this question you should be safe to move the furniture back in now.
