I'd like to take standard-size pics that you can bring to rite-aid for printing (and maybe blown up to say, an 8 x 11 sheet) and the occasional movies.

I have a Panasonic FZ20 (5.1MP) & LZ2(5MP), and an old Visioneer MX230 (2MP).

Image size is all about the megapixels (MP) which is roughly 1 million pixels and a pixel of course is one "dot" in an image. If you have a 5MP camera, you can fit several hundred on even a 1GB SD card. If you have 8MP, you can fit less unless you lower the resolution to 5MP or less.

My FZ20 is a 5.1MP camera and with the 2GB card I have in it, I can take 800+ pictures at full resolution. By contrast, if I use the TIFF (14MB!) mode I can only get 160 or so pics.

As for the price, yes $99 is VERY high considering you can get 4GB for $99 http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecdm/shop/detail~dpno~601848.asp

You can get a 2GB for around $40 from here: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecdm/search/search.asp?id=149934592&search=2GB%20Secure%20Digital%20(SD)%20Memory

For 8x11 prints, a 6 mega-pixel camera will suffice.
As for the memory cards, SanDisk has several flavors: Ultra ll, Extreme lll and lV, etc.
For point and shoots, the Ultra ll line is good enough. The going rate for the 2GB version is $80.
B&H offers the Extreme lll for around the same price after a rebate, but the write-speed of that model is overkill. I wouldn't go through the hastle.

I have a Nikon 4300 and a Canon Powershot G6. They are both very good consumer digicams.
$99 seems a little high for a 2gig now, I gave $79 for mine about a year ago. Might want to shop around some more.
