Good morning Miss Muslimah. Yes before we go and shoot our big mouth off we should know what we are talking about. I have studied Christianity and Buddhism fairly thoroughly but still have a lot to learn of course. The main thing is we should realize we don't know it all and say--I don't know, if we don't know. Allow others to speak and we will learn something while listening.

I think you learn the core concepts, then you start learning things related to those concepts, then spiderweb out from there. From a christian perspective, I know that I have read a Bible passage many times and got nothing from it, yet one day I have a eureka moment about it and understand. I believe that that is the Holy Spirit allowing me to understand when I am ready.
As far as preaching goes, I believe that most anyone can speak about their religion as long as they stick with what they have studied. Just take a look at some of these televangelists, they "know" alot about the Bible, but they bend it to suit their goals rather than bending themselves to suit God's goals.
The televangelists show that just knowing the Bible is not enough, it is more important that you live by it as well. That's what truly helps with preaching the word as your life also becomes a message.

This is a great question. Preaching is certainly not the only thing where this is true. I think one can preach without being all knowing of their religion, but they should at least be very well informed on what they are preaching about or they should keep their mouths shut.

I think people should not only learn their religion before preaching, but also other religions. This way they can explain the differences and WHY they believe as they do--------not just tell HOW it is.

People should first find out if what they beleive in is the truth.
It is better not to preach at all lest you mislead and deceive the innocent ones.
and a verse from the relevant religious book does not constitute as "proof" of the truth....truth does not lie in any passage or verse.

aslam o alaikumn good morning(it's evening at my place) :)
well! definately without knowledge no one should lead up to preaching.but sometimes one knows little about his or her religion, but from the aspect of the person who wants to learn about ur religion(and knows nothing),that little matters too.i agree if u don't know something, then clearly apologize instead of misguiding...but i guess no one should back out on the basis that he knows little.n definately, everyone knows some bits...
sometimes, question of ppl let me realize ok! i should search what my religion exactly preaches about this.so preaching does lead to learning also...
i read my religion,n my quest continues...

Yes you should know your religion before speaking to others about it. You should also know others religions when speaking to them about theirs.
Remember in Islam saying something that is not true about the religion is a major sin. If you don't know the answer with proof from Quran and Sunnah or you don't know were to find the answer then don't answer, let those who know answer.

Yes, you should learn your religion and know that it is of God and not of man. There are very many decievable religions out there today. And most people actually believe whatever someone tells them and just bases their whole lives on it. I have something that I can feel way down deep in my soul and I know that Jesus is real.

Preaching is teaching. The bible for example regarding elders which are usually older men, that have experience in life, should also be QUALIFIED persons. That is stated in the books of Timothy. Hopefully if you do teach, you teach what the bible says and not your own. Always use scriptures to back up any thoughts.

I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for my sins. I know that the only way that we get to heaven is through Jesus. I know that come judgement day WE all will have to answer for the things we have done because Jesus Christ will be doing the judging!! I know if a person is NOT saved, there not going to heaven. You have to repent, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart. I have done all these things and yes you should read your Bible, but the MOST important thing to do is have Jesus in your life, after that things fall into place. We have to have FAITH, and that is something I've got. It's not about preaching, it's about knowing, and I know I'm going to heaven because Jesus Christ IS my Personal Savior.
