I agree with sirtitus' analysis. The South Koreans view the North as family. They constantly dream of unification. In the government, there is actually a position called "unification minister." They give the North aid money. They want a single Korean country. They want to help the North's economy to improve.

Last time I lived in South Korea was 3 years ago so maybe things have changed there (especially with North Korea building and exploding nuclear bombs).

But 3 years ago, the general South Korean view was that North Koreans were their cousins and family and they would love to reunite the two countries into one Korea. That's what they would tell you, anyway.

However, South Koreans were not eager for this reunification to happen because they were worried about how the poor North would bring down the economy of the South (which would definitely happen).

After more than 50 years apart, the two Koreas are more and more becoming two different nations. The language is ever changing between the two and 50 years of different governments and ideologies have also had an effect.

As a simple citizen, people have a great sympathy over people in N.Korea. It's a small country before it got divided, and almost everyone either has family or someone they knew at both side, and it's heart breaking.
In politic, they are enemy, and north side of government has been a great treat to South for a long time.
My father left his whole family behind at North when war broke out at age 19, and never heard from them.
Still, he refuse to go visit as long as it's government is in power, even with few chance he has now as an American citizen.
people are more cautious now about hope to reunite two side, after watch how difficult it caused in Germany after it became one, still, the mutual feeling over most of people is like:
hate the sin, love the sinner
Hate the government, love the people.

No, I don't think they are as an enemy. They used to be our family, but it is totally different country anyway. we even can't talk each other cuz we using different language by now.

It is really sad to see, hear that ppl are dying with starvation. no matter how much we gave them money, food etc, it is all going to the army not to citizen. scary and sad story.

I don't want to see reunite the two countries into one without developing North part.

And I doubt to be reunite. cuz North Korea doesn't seem want to wake up. And I don't want to be reunited with them. I don't like them. I wish we can be separated forever as different country.

It is totally my personal opinion as a Korean.

I am sure many of other Koreans have different opinion with me.
I am a unique one. lol
