Our cats are all serial fire hoggers - it's sometimes hard for us to get a look in - they get unbelievably close to it, far closer than we would ever want to! And they get seriously brassed off if we are going out and therefore won't be lighting the fire...
I must admit it worries me sometimes, however they have been doing it all their lives and are none the worse for it. We do, of course, keep a guard up so there is no problem with sparks.
I remember once seeing a TV programme about cats which said that they can tolerate much greater temperatures than we can and that they will actively seek out really hot places. It gave as an example a cat that lived in a steelworks in Sheffield and used to enjoy sleeping really close to the furnaces!
I suppose if you think about it they are descended from tropical animals so it's logical they should love heat. (Our vet also says that's why many cats don't drink very much - we were recently concerned about one of ours who we never, ever, see at the water bowl.)

No, Your cat has excellent senses. All of those long whiskers are sensors, The cat will know when he/she cannot take anymore. Cats assuredly love the warmth, that is why they linger by the fireplace for hours on end.
Where Your Cat Chooses to Sleep:
Your cat looks for a place that feels comfortable and safe and has the right temperature. When the weather is warm, he will seek high shaded sleeping nooks, where he can stretch out. During the cool winter months he’ll find a place bathed in the warm sunshine or sidle up to heat source and there he’ll curl up with face between paws to reduce body heat loss.
Just supervise the cat periodically for signs of life, and make sure you have a screen so no hot embers pop out and burn your cat and/or floor.
I think it would be a cute sight to see the kitty lounging by the fire.

If its too hot, he will move away. Cat's are sensitive enough. If u touch 1 hear, he will already feel it! So don't worry, he will feel if his fur really starts burning.

Cats simply love heat and can't get enough of it. Shouldn't be a problem.

Just let her sit there. It's a win win situation. If the cat feels comfortable let her stay. If she ends up getting burned or even more, well... I guess you'll have a nice meal for your next dinner.
