AUTOMATICITY IS THE ABILITY to effortlessly complete everyday tasks with low interference of other simultaneous activities and without conscious thought to step-by-step process. When the brain recognizes familiar tasks it processes the information and applies the correct rules to the procedure in order to reduce the demand on the working memory and allow for higher order processing of information.

Different parts of the heart have tissue that contracts spontaneously at difference rates. Normally the heard rate arises in the SA node at 60 to 100 beats per minute and travels down the hearts conduction system leading the entire heart to beat at the same rate. However if there is an interruption of the flow of impulses down the conduction path, such as in the various types of heart block, other parts of the heart will start to beat on their own. The ventricle of the heart for example has an automaticity beat of 40 to 60 beats per minute. So that in some heart conditions you can see the different parts of the heart (due to automaticity) beating at there own natural rate. This is most often considered to be a bad thing (Grin)
