the store (in my country) suggested to place the cigars in a dominican cigar box and have it sealed!!! but this seems too wrong. would u.s airport immigration confiscate the box (cuban)? and would they cause me any trouble? even if it was for personal use or a gift! the store owner told me that all americans use dominican boxes to decieve the port authority! who cares anyways, since castro should die any moment now.

it is illegal to bring them into the US .. however disguised as another cigar, maybe, but then you lose some of the authenticity factor...

The US Dept. of Justice has issued a corrective to the Cuba embargo law: US residents can bring back Cuban cigars, but only one box at a time per person, and for their personal use only. That means you can NOT, in any way, receive any box in the USA, but only that you can cross the US border with a box, preferably already opened and with one or more cigars smoked, to prove that the cigars are for personal use.

Yes! It is illegal to bring cuban cigars into the United States. It's also illegal to bring Cubans into the United States!

Yes. Very. However, if you put it in your checked luggage in a different container, you can get away with it.

I was coming back from Sweden and had a prescription in my handbag and had it confiscated at customs. I was also detained at the airport for over six hours and missed my connecting flight. So, Swedish terrorists are apparently rampant in the US and we come armed with medications. Apparently the medication my doctor in Sweden had prescribed for me was illegal in the US. My US doctor said later that he could give me something *similar* but that I shouldn't try to go home with it as he had looked into it and it was illegal in Sweden! Strange, no? I didn't think too many things were illegal in Sweden.

Don't take the chance. Mail it to yourself.

It is not worth getting caught over. US Customs (now CBP) is very strict when it comes to these type of things, it is their job. Sure many people have got away with sneaking them in, but is it really worth it, they are just cigars.

all the top level CEO's and congressmen smoke cubans, so why should this privilege be only for the rich and powerful?
