The expression "I am" is found in most bibles at Exodus 3:14.

Unfortunately this is a bad translation of the Hebrew.

Better translations are "I shall prove to be, whom I shall prove to be."

or

"I will be whom I will be"

In Israel names had meanings that described the individual.

Jesus' name means "Jehovah is Salvation"
but we don't go around saying "I have faith in Jehovah is Salvation" we say "I have faith in Jesus"

In the greek Septugent at Ex. 3:14 it reads
I am the being, with the being being the name.

So at John 5:58 if Jesus was to quote Ex 3:14 he would have to say, "before Abraham..., the being"

If 'I am' is the correct translation of John 8:58, then when we are asked "How old are you?"

We follow Jesus' example and answer with "Our Name"

Jesus was saying "Before Abraham ..., I have been" which is answering the question asked, and is proper english.

Ex 3:15 goes on to explain that we are to use Jehovah's name and not the definition "I shall prove to be" when addressing Him.

God is God by any name you give it... "I am the I am" is the most accurate to "me".

www.biblegateway.com is a good source for searching the bible by word or phrase.

Human ego does not create God.... unless we THINK it does. Everyone thinks they know the "real" God, as if humans control WHO God is? Or what name to call it? By what they choose to believe or not?

"I am" is neither male OR female, human, plant OR animal..... each tangible temporary being is conditional.

God is unconditional LOVE=I am.

any of God names works.

[110] Say (O Muhammad (P)) "Invoke Allâh or invoke the Most Gracious (Allâh), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names. And offer your Salât (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice, but follow a way between.

Hi there, the passage you are looking for is Exodus 3: in the old Testament.
by way of explanation, the title I am who am, spoken to Moses is not Gods name in the same way that we have christian names like john or mary, we cannot know God as He knows Himself, this is mystery, what we know of God has been told to us by Jesus who taught us to call God, our Father.
In a sense by saying to Moses, I AM WHO AM, was tantamount to expressing the holiness of God and the awe that surrounds Him.
just ask yourself how much would Gods name be abused if human beings were to know it? the name of Jesus is terribly abused each and every day.

Jesus said to one of his followers "BEFORE ABRAHAM CAME TO BE, I AM." I don't remember if it was to John the Baptist, when he asked Jesus if HE was the ONE that they had been seeking and waiting for, the messiah -- or if it was to another of his disciples.
