Ive had long hair for years and years since I was in my early 20's. Im 41 now...just had my birthday. I am afraid to cut my hair I feel naked if I do. I feel hair is glory to the woman.

As has already been said, long hair doesn't look so well on people who are getting older, or as some would say, entering their prime. Ask Trinny & Susannah, and they will tell you about "hanging on to long hair", something I spend a lot of time warning my aunt about, who's just a couple of years older than you. T&S say: "Having beautiful hair does not mean you should be tempted to keep the same long hairstyle that you have been wearing for years. Keeping long hair won't necessarily mean you will look younger. After the mid-thirties, a shorter haircut will make a woman look more sophisticated, smarter, and more feminine".
I think you should try a shorter haircut, even if you only cut off, like, two inches or something. You don't necessarily have to go for an all-out bob or anything.

I agree, for the most part with The Scent of Cinnamon. It seems like you might be pretty emotionally attached to your hair. I feel much this way about my own. What I decided after much thought and debate is that I should cut enough off to be a real change for me, but not so much that I couldn't grow it back in a reasonable period of time. Then I'd try it out for a bit and see how I really felt. If I really liked it short and didn't miss my long hair too much I'd cut it further. Since my hair was down to my hips, I had plenty to work with. So for my first step I took off about 5 inches. Which was not a lot for how long my hair was. In my case it made my hair look much better on me, and I decided to try more. I was more aggressive the second cut, and I did cut a little more off than was comfortable. After that I decided to grow it back some. I finally decided that just below shoulder-blade level is right for me. It looks a little better on me if I go to just below the top of my shoulders, but that's just too short for how I feel. Sometimes taking it in small steps is the best way. Especially since you can't know completely how you will look or feel about how you look until it's done.

Do what you think is right. If you feel too attached with your hair and don't want to cut it, then wait for a month and think about it again after. If, however, you want you take a chance and try something new, then go for it!! It might turn out to be your favourite haircut that you never discovered before. And if you don't like it, it will always grow back! So really, its up to you, but if you're not ready to cut it yet, then maybe later. Hope this helps!

You should cut your hair to give you that free, wonderful feeling.....depending on how long it is, it would not be necessary to go real short, but to get a wonderful hairstyle suited to your hair type and shape of face that would be not much trouble to look after...actually as long as you can get it up in a pony you will feel totally liberated....

If you feel uncomfortable then do not cut. But if you want to try a new style then try to cut it in an attractive hair-cut but not too short. And happy belated b'day !

Short hair are also beautiful and a lot easier to handle in all places.(Inbed, in front of mirror, and mostly for your partner)
