You have to make the decision on your own. You can ask other people for their opinions, but ultimately it's your decision because it's going to be on YOUR body for the rest of your life. Make sure it is something you won't get sick of or be embarassed to show your kids (if you have them) later on.

Also, you might want to put it somewhere where it can be covered up when you go on job interviews.

Okay, well, if you have to ask, I'd probably wait.

Tattoos should be very personal. They should have a profound meaning to you. They should either portay, express, or symbolize you, something you love, or something about you. Not thinking out a tattoo, or other people telling you what to get is one of the fastest ways to regret. Choose the design by thnking of you, and not necissarily intersts, but stuff that is YOU. What are your motives for a tattoo? Is to be cool, or impress, if so, I'd reconcider.

As you might notice, many people hate and frown upon tattoos, and many businesses can turn you down because of them. So choose a spot that you can show it, but also easily cover it up. That is important because you lose a lot of job opportunties with tattoos, unfortunately.

Also, like some people so rudely put it, the aging factor. Keep in mind that yes, your body ages, and your tattoo will along with it. Tattoos are a life time commitment, so don't rush it, and put a lot of thought into it... keep that in mind. if you're getting it for the right reasons, you shouln't mind... but i don't know you..

If you have a better reason that vanity to get a tattoos, than go for it after you research risks, the process, and a good shop and artist to get it done at. This is very important, which most do not realize or do.

A good way to help decide on a design is going into a good tattoo shop, and talk to an artist about what you want. If you tell them things you are interested in, and what you were considering, they should help you come up with the perfect design for you.
The best way to get the design you want after you decide on something, is to have the artist you intend to do it draw it up custom for you. This is their job, and most are very artists and creative and should be able to fully satisfy you.. The best way is going to your professional artist and talking to them. they'll even quote you on the price they'd do it for.. they can help you out, and also answer any questions you may have. Don't be shy, we're not scary!

You have the rest of your life to get one, no rush, think it through. Do research. I promise it'll be better if you do.

message if you have any more questions..if you want..

First of all, consider approximately how everlasting a tattoo is. Find some thing you'll be able to are living with....without end. If you get worn out of it, definite it may be eliminated however no longer with out an unpleasant scar and at satisfactory price financially. You have to recollect all this earlier than taking the plunge in getting a tattoo. Also, what is adorable whilst you are younger will best seem foolish whilst you are 50. That's some thing to recollect as good. You might desire to check out on a couple of transitority tattoos earlier than making it everlasting.

When I got mine, I pretty much had decided that I wanted a vine of some sort as an anklet. This being the case, I looked at the tattoo artist's very thick book of anklets and combined a few designs to make it my own. It wasn't cheap, but I agree that tattooing is not something that you want to cut corners with the price on.

I have a lot of friends that have chosen their first tattoo based on something personal like ethicity or something else about them that they are proud of. The big thing in that category has been shamorocks (I have quite a few friends that are Irish). To this end, I have pretty much decided that I would eventually like to get a tattoo of the Czech coat of arms.

it all depends on what you like - choose carefully - you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life(unless you wanna pay to get it removed). i wish id picked more carefully over one of my tattoo's.
my best advice is to look around. my friend is looking into tattoos at the moment and has loads of ideas from internet sites. or you can design your own on paper. most tattoists can transfer your drawing or printed design from the net onto their paper to then copy it onto your body and do it that way.
most tattoo shops also have books full of tattoos they do..i find with these though most people in your town will probably have the same ones. if you design your own or get one from the net its more individual.
a note on these chinese/japanese tattoos in shop books - sometimes many arent exactly what they seem to be. i have a friend who is japanese and has seen so many people walking about with a tattoo which looks nice but actually means something like cheese or rice!plus theres been stories in papers about the same thing! could you imagine!
research is the best advice when it comes to getting a tattoo. good luck!

I went to the tattoo shop 3 days in a row, looked through all of the books, then there was one that just stuck in my head. It was more expensive but I figured a tattoo isn't the time to be cheap.

Head down to Hot Rod Tattoo in Atlantic City, ask for a guy called Fil 13...He'll give you what he wants and your stuck with it. I use to work in a tattoo shop, hated it when idiots came in not knowing what they wanted and asking what they should get. Seen too many dumb kanji's, too many butterflys, bad tribal and dragons. Tattooing use to be original and it's sadly lost it's edge. Everyone and thier grandmother has one these days. Still glad I have all mine though, and I'll keep adding to my collection till I cant tell what color I am.

A tattoo of something that is of special significance -I have an anklet of waves to remind me of walking on the beach in Hawaii & a sea turtle (which I saw on Punalu'u Beach sunning itself). It makes me think that I should slow down, enjoy life, and no matter what, Hawaii is waiting for another visit from me.

Reflect on your life.

1) what are your loves?

2) what are your passions?

3) what makes life worth living for you?

4) what symbols have real meaning to you and why?

5) Look at your heritage and culture...?

From there, find something that has most meaning to you that you will treasure for the rest of your life.

Discuss with the artist at the tat parlout then work with him/her to come out with a solid design.

Cheers

:-)

get different designs and combine a few to make one, try to be unique and don't just choose one from the book or wall, since most likely someone else will have it. Make it mean something to you and dont be in a rush.
