Woke up Thursday morning with a stiff neck which is unusual. It got worse over the day. The next morning it really hurt and I couldn't move my head left or right and could slightly move it up and down. Saturday morning it kept jarring without warning and it was hurting to swallow, during the day my next started to swell and I had no neck. Doctor said my muscle had siezed, to take the tables there was nothing more to do.

I have been given diazepam and diclofenac. I do not much much about either of these apart from basic internet searches. Would like to hear from anyone that has had a similar experience and what worked or didn't work to help movement and pain. Not being able to swallow is the worst part - the tablets have helped although it is still restrictive.

A good chiropractor helped me with out medications and it is permanent . I also learned relaxation therapy, like meditation, etc. Tension is the cause or at lease it was for me and I had to change my life style and beliefs to a certain point.

Check here a very effective Sciatica Natural Treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

I was in a car wreck 3 yrs ago, Broke my neck in 2 places and my back in 3 places. Lots of muscle and nerve damage in those areas. The only thing I was able to find that helped (don't like pain pills) was Naproxen 500mg. It is a strong anti-inflammatory pill. Pain pills slow down your body's healing. I also found that an Ice pack, not heat, helps re leave the tightness and swelling in my neck and upper back. Also you may want to try seeing a chiropractic doctor. Pain pills will only help with the pain, they don't help fix the problem. Also try to accept the every day pain, don't try to fight it. That will only stress you out more and tighten up your muscles even more.Good luck!

I would suggest more stretching to strengthen your neck. Looking forward, tilt your head towards your right shoulder, and gently push on your temple with your left hand, then repeat on the other side. Gently push back against your hand for added strength. Also looking back and forth, extending your neck as far as comfortable helps, and then do reps of 8 (look forward, look left, look forward, look right in a gentle motion). These simple moves should help to warm up the muscles and help loosen your neck, hopefully aleviating the spasms a bit. Hope this helps.

Actually I took Robaxicet. Put some ice on it and waited it out.
My doctor said there wasn't much you can do but hold on. Cause eventually it will go away. Sorry, I know how that feels.

Get a massage from a therapist (not your friend) and it will relieve the excess tension in your neck & shoulder muscles.
