The command was given to the nation of Israel in how to behave with each other. At the time the Israelites crossed over into the land of Ca'naan those living there had been given notice for the better part of 400 hundred years that God was to use it as the promised land. One thing we have to remember is that although events like the flood of Noah's day are considered myth today, it was very real history to those people. They had also heard about what had happened to the Egyptians at the red sea. So these were not poor Innocent people being bullied. They were defiantly acting against God. The ca'naanites and all the other factions in the area were also considerably bigger in military force to the Israelites.
So the law was given to man in how to behave. The action taken against those living in the land of Ca'naan was a direction given by God to do His will.

well,, it was approved by God because those other nations were / had known God's laws and regulations.. they were at the time worshiping false gods and such.. Even though God does says not to kill,,, it is within his law to exercise judgment on nations or people's and individual persons who do not obey those commandments.. It is with love from God that he does this not to be cruel..(he gives advance warning before he does anything like that ) but it protects the righteousness persons and the innocent..

like wise when God had ordered in the past to kill even children and livestock,, it was done because of the gross practices that some of the nations were doing. such as Baal worship,, they sacerficed live children into the fire of that particular god..

Well, lets see they had made idols out of gold and silver..What is the first commandment,,thou shall have no other Gods before me...Lets think about this,,these people trusted God to take them to the promise land but when it didn't happen for them when they wanted it to happen they started looking to other gods..God had them in the wilderness for 40 years because of their disobedience. We cant expect God to do things for us on our time..He lives in the spiritual realm where time is not..

Religion is just too violent. Even God has instigated violence. The problem in the Middle East exists because God told both Israelis and Palestinians ,"This land is Yours", and since then the bloodshed has not stopped.

Because the correct translation of that commandment is 'thou shalt not murder', and the ancient jews made a distinction between murder and some other forms of killing. self-defense killings were allowed, as were those in war.

You're questioning God's swift judgement on a continually wicked people? They weren't "innocent."

Numbers 32:21 - "And ye will all go armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his ENEMIES from before him there"

because people always use their God as an excuse for killing. A true God would never order the murder of anyone

firstly one thing your not seeming to grasp...

theres a *MASSIVE* difference between "kill" and "murder"

for example shooting someone who has hostages... is not murder. its killing, but its not in the remotest sense murder.

war is not murder, executing criminals is not murder...
