Or you may have burnt your tounge and not noticed, or bit your toung in your sleep, or had your tounge pushed against your teeth in your sleep, or had a concentration of something on your tounge in that spot like a straw pointed there while you were drinking fluids or like tapping candy powder on your tounge, or you could have been allergic to something that touched your tounge, or you could have had a tiny cut and bacteria, a virus, or a disease entered there that will be out of your system soon,.. or you had raw egg like cookie dough ice cream, batter, certain drinks,.. egg powder in a product you did not know, something to spicy and something else immediately touched your tounge like something too spicey, allergies to toothpaste or mouthwash....
Okay, I think that's enough reason. Just do not panic and try very hard to NOT PLAY WITH THAT PART OF YOUR TOUNGE (too irristable for most people),.. when you drink out of a straw put it on the other side of your mouth, try drinking things with a touch of mint, speriment, but not peppermint but not hard candy (like tea, ice cream, gum) and ESPECIALLY NOT MOUTH WASH, brush your tounge one day then do not brush your teeth at all for a couple days to let things calm down. I would think slowly licking Mint Ice Cream would help (do not eat like a maniac, just leave on tounge).
And now people will panic about Health and Hygiene and Thumbs down me XD The world will not end and you won't die from a couple days of Ice Cream and no Brushing.

they're probably canker sores, which are caused by the herpes virus...yes, the same virus that causes the sexually transmitted disease, but just a different strain. no, it doesnt mean you had oral with anybody or anything like that, it's just a different type of the same virus.
my mom had canker sores on the back of her tongue and they were so painful she had to go to the doctor. she rinsed her mouth with salt water several times a day and that seemed to help.

I guess it can. However, if you bite your tounge a lot, this could be the soucre of it hurting too. Also, you might have actual sores on your tounge. I hope you feel better, and rememver , always brush your gums too!!

A virus, herpes simplex, I believe. Try Aptiva (think that is the right name). It is OTC and seems to work very quickly.
