Actually bulimic people don't tend to drop very much weight at all, they just mess up their metabolism which makes gaining weight even easier than before!

There could be lots of reasons. Maybe she was big long before she became bulimic. I've also read that for the most bulimia really doesn't help people lose weight. But I don't know about that. I battled bulimia for over a year and I was about 95 pounds near the end of it so obviously I was losing weight. But I was throwing up literally every time I ate even the smallest amount of something. Some bulimics don't throw up that often. I was also dancing everyday of my life and compulsively exercising. I really don't think bulimia on it's own does much because your body already begins to absorb some of the nutrients and fats once you swallow the food.

But really, just give your friend as much support as you can. Bulimia is hard to deal with and whatever you do don't ask her what just asked on here. It really doesn't make a lot of sense but just be tolerant. She needs that right now.

This is a common myth that binging and purging causes weight loss. When some one binges (eats a lot) They usually eat very high calorie foods, the calories still get absorbed in their bodies. When they purge (throw up, use laxatives, ect) They get rid of the waist, and a small percentage of the calories they eat are not absorded. However they still gain/maintain weight through the calories there body is able to absorb before they purge. Some bulimics do not binge and purge to lose weight, infact it is rare for a bulimic to lose any weight.

Similarly, both anorexics and bulimics have an overpowering sense of self that is determined by their weight and their perceptions of it. They both place all their achievements and successes as the result of their body, and for this reason are often depressed as they feel they are consistently failing to achieve the perfect body. For the bulimic, because she cannot achieve the low weight she feels physically that she is a failure and this outlook infiltrates into all aspects of her life.

Good luck to your friend, I will pray for her. Make sure your stay with her a nd help her through the hard times, though I am sure you will

Because she's bulimic, her body's natural function is to preserve anything that she does eat. Every little ounce of fat she has is being preserved because the body feels that it's not getting enough nourishment. As a result, anything that she eats at all will be stored and the body will use up as little food as possible to survive.

She may have slowed her metabolism down buy vomiting or she may have another medical issue that causes her to weigh what she does. Not only thin people are bulimic you can be over weight with it but anorexia is totaly different.

i think some people can actually gain weight when they're bulimic. they go for so long without keeping food in their stomach that the next time they do eat, their stomach goes crazy and snatches up the carbs before they have time to barf it out. i think it's something like that.

Perhaps she has a thyroid problem or is just plain greedy? I have had conversations with a number of super-sized people who are bewildered as to why they find it so hard to lose weight. This is generally said as they ram yet another doughnut into their cakehole!
