I came from a warm climate (Florida) and I need to stay for 3 months in Anchorage. I dont have a lot of money to go to expensive gym. Any suggestion on how should I exercise here in Anchorage ?

It depends on where you are living in Anchorage . . .

There are very many trails that you can walk on, bike, or jog, including the coastal trail that starts downtown and ends in Kincaid Park.

In another week or two, tho, it will probably snow . . .there are numerous cross-country ski trails all over the city, and that would be a great way to get outside and keep fit. You might be able to get some inexpensive skiis at play-it-again sports on Spenard road. If you have the budget, get a new pair of skiis from REI or AMH in the same area of town . . .probably fischer scs would work best . . (skate). REI ususally sponsors ski lessons for free.

Swimming is an option - you can go to some of the local high schools and pay for the visit rather than signing a contract like at a gym.

You might want to check with the Alaska club, though, and see if they could give you some kind of 3 month rate.

Well, I hear pulling elk is a good form of Alaskan exercise. You just take two friendly elk and tie leads to their horns and then pull them around while you snowshoe uphill.

If that doesn't work...

You can always get a really good run by sneaking up on unsuspecting Grizzlies and Kodiak bears, and snagging their salmon really fast, and then letting them chase you. That tends to help you run very fast, knowing they are fast on your heels.

If that doesn't work...

I hear manual Lemming catching season is at hand. You can go out and get yourself two sticks, and a bag. You bang the sticks together, and jump up and down (the exercise part) and when the Lemming comes running out, you bag it.

If that doesn't work....

You can always marry one of those lonely Eskimo women...and then spend a lot of time running from her in deep snow. It really works the calves I hear.

If that doesn't work...

You won't have to worry about it, because you will either die from one of the above, or it will be time to head back to the real world and real temperatures, in sunny Florida.

Good luck!

Get some workout dvd's and try doing it at home. If you're not into that, bundle up and go for a brisk walk..
