I had 3 cats pass away on me and with the passing of each cat I had this same problem with my animals being in depression. For each cat it took about a year to get over the death of the other. I spoiled them, played with them, never disciplined them, got excited and played with them like small children. They appreciate the comfort of being held, and being babied, start a new routine with them like soft cat food a certain day of the week, or a new trick to show them, like how to knock a bottle off a table. Just like us they need distractions, learning, and knew ideas to grow and get over the past traumas in life. Your time with them means everything. Love them and treat them like little kings and queens. It worked for my cat well, I took focus off the old, and moved on to new stuff. Let them outdoors on a leash one time, just give them new experiences to help them move on.

Some cats and other animals NEVER get over the loss. The best thing is for them to see the corpse, but this is not posible.
Some people try to give treats and gifts but when the pets finally forget the owners are drowning in loss and keep giving things,.. EVEN NEW FRIENDS,.. to try to feel better and use their pets' depression as an excuse.
You will never know if and when they get over the loss completely. Just try to comfort them and let them know your sad by crying with them around if you can. Some people try to hide emotions from children and pets but that creates new problems.

this is normal among cat that have been around another cat for a long time. they might also feel like the late cat is still there due the the smell left behind. just give them time this last for a bit of time

I was fortunate when my 15 y.o. cat died, her sister didn't act like she missed her. Both cats were in the same room when the one died so maybe she knew what happened. Or maybe she didn't care which would be odd for them. Once the one that passed had gotten locked in the closet. The one I still have squalled until I discovered one was missing.

Awwww.. :( First off, I'm so sorry for your loss - I know how hard that is!
They are in kitty-mourning. You miss your cat and they miss him too. They are missing him and just need time to adjust to life without him. They are sticking close to you and your husband for several reasons - they sense you both are upset, I'm sure, and they also are keeping tabs on you both to be sure you will still be around.
It's impossible to give an exact time on how long this will be but trust me, it will get easier bit by bit. Now, if they stop eating entirely for several days then you might need to take them to the vet. Otherwise it's natural and just give them lots of love and they will be ok.

Find something the cat used to sleep on or play with - his scent will calm your kitties. Otherwise, just give them lots of love, tell them everything's ok and keep a normal routine. They will get better with time. It's just like when you give away a mama's kittens. She's sad and looks for them for a long time.

It should only take a few days maybe two weeks TOPS!!! Next time...if you can handle it. Bring the cat home and let them smell it. I had to do that with my female when her pup died. She was VERY upset the whole time he was a the vet but once we brought him home to burry him. She sniffed him and walked away and that was the end of it!

it may take awhile but they will soon give up. I had a cat that dies 1 year ago and my other one ran away. But like I said it will take a little time.
