I am crazy about my dogs. However, if there was a disaster, and I didn't have time to help all escape, I would certainly help my son, daughter in law and grandbaby first...Not a happy choice, but I do value human life (most humans, anyway)more than even my wonderful dogs..
We had a Tsunami warning last Spring..Everyone was evacuated to high ground..The volunteers at the local shelter risked their own lives to get ALL of the animals to safety..
A quote from Andy Rooney:: Most dogs are nicer people than most people..

Love their pets you mean? Perhaps that is true as opposed to perfect strangers. People usually don't love their pets more than people they know or care about.
Animals havea perfect innocence to them. For instance, a dog willallow its owner to beat it senseless and will wag its tail until the death. How many humans are like that?
Many religions consider animals sacred and in equivalence to human life.
Also remember humans are the highest form of animal, so it is in our hands whether animals live or die. They can not speak out against anything.

I do. Human beings are capable of some very disturbing acts of violence that animals are not. Animals love unconditionally, forgive, and are just more compassionate living beings. They will provide a service for nothing, and give their lives for you without question. Funny how we say that a man's best friend is a dog when it should really be another man. Proves that we have yet a lot to learn from them.

Yes I do as well. Mostly because of how much they love me but I have seen some horrible horrible things of people. Things that haunt your dreams at night and try to grab at the edges of your vision in the early morning... People are wretched creatures and they hurt and kill with no compassion or moral constraint. This is why I love animals. They kill only for food, never out of hatred and never with the same violence I've seen people use. People don't care about what they are killing either, they kill each other, and animals and in the most horrible ways. The unconditional love animals display for us (dogs, cats, wolfs, and even dolphins and other wild animals) is truly amazing.
Edit: To zen, you haven't seen what I have. If you do, you'll lose a little bit of that "sanity" of which you speak.

I also love animals more than humans. Humans are the cruelest species to walk the earth. Anybody ever watch a human slaughter a horse?

and this is humanity.... no thanks. I have worked in the medical field, oncology(cancer). I think out of the five years I worked there I cried once. When I look at the eyes of the ones who cannot speak for themselves or do anything about thier situation it goes beyond tears......................

i absolutely care more for animals than humans..as others have stated, they don't have any mean intentions..they don't hold grudges..they are true friends and are there when u need them..they give unconditional love...i can't stand it when someone says "oh, it's just an animal"...that infuriates me... that animal has feelings, suffers from heat and cold, hunger and pain...just like humans..and they deserve love and attention as much as, if not more than humans...i love my "children" as tho i gave birth to them myself..lol..by the way, i'd rather have animal kids than human ones any day...

after all these years it still amazes me how the animal world can still show love when a human can hold grudges and even kill a human. they show love by licking, laying ,playing and even crying when something is wrong. they are the reason i would rather have animals around me than humans anytime

I do with the exception of family and my dearest best friend.
I know that my dog loves me unconditionally, and if I accidently step on his foot, he still loves me... he doesn't nag at me about it.. he doesn't remind me for days on end that I harmed him, nor does he gossip to the other dogs about how abusive I was (throwing things out of proportion), he doesn't gloat about the things he has that I don't.. he doesn't try convince my children that drinking or drugging is cool, he lets me talk on end for hours if something is bothering me, he allows me to hug him when I am sad, about the only bad human habit he has is trying to steal a snack off my plate... but for him I'll let it slide :) He is my bud, my companion, my life... without him I'd be lost in a world of hate, greed, selfishness and mistrust.

Yes, they do. It's truly twisted. Because you see, an animal is a creature who does not possess a mind. Maybe he is well trained and domesticated, but he is nothing compared to the magnificent being known as man. A thinking, purposeful, dynamic, creative, being full of life and the only living thing capable of pursuing happiness.
Your dog may be a comfort, may be loyal and lovable, but he is beneath you and to think otherwise is to value the regression towards beastiality for all of us, brutality, and death. For without humans to teach the dog manners, he is just a vicious wild animal.
