I have a auto reverse cassette player in my chevrolet celebrity. So I bought a cassette adapter to play my mp3 player on and when I put the tape in, I just heard a clicking noise coming from the cassette player and static in my speakers. Then I tried it on a regular stereo cassette player and it worked fine. So is it something wrong with the deck in my car or do I need to keep looking for another adapter? An if its the deck is there anyway to fix it?

Whats happening is the tape deck has sensors that detect when the take-up-real stops moving and "thinks" your tape is at the end, so it auto reverses, "thinks" your tape is at the end, so it auto reverses, "thinks" your tape is at the end, so it auto reverses, ... get it.

You need a special kind (sometimes hard to find) that has gears and turns the take-up-real on the deck, this prevents the deck from thinking your tape is at the end and plays just fine.

If this is a factory Toyota tape player, then it's possible that one of the tape take-up reels is cracked. This is common in Toyota units made by Fujitsu Ten. If it's not a Toyota, then you may have a small piece of grit trapped in the teeth of one of the gears for the take-up reels.

nowadays it is cheaper to replace that tape deck with a cd player than it is to fix it.
