Walking a mile and running a mile both burn the same amount of calories. The difference is that walking a mile takes longer.
Don't run, but walk instead. And listen to your body. If you ankle starts bothering you, it's trying to tell you something. You may need to cut back on the intensity more. Split it up to 2 or 3 times a day.
And, if you haven't already, see a doctor about the ankle. There may be a reason it bothers you. You doctor can also give you more advice after examining you on how much exercise you should be doing with it.

If your ankle bothers you then stay away from running. Once you can safely run on your ankle then running is a great way to lose weight. Until then use the healing time to pay attention to what you eat, burn off calories through cardiovascular exercises like sit ups. Remember that the most important part of losing weight is calorie intake and the amount of calories burned. When you burn more than you intake you lose weight. But don't go crazy, don't stave yourself or over-exercise. Do what you are comfortable doing until you feel you can step it up, just repeat this process and you will be good in no time. Good luck!

It depends on your diet. If you have a problem with your right ankle, I think that it is not advisable for you to go thru running coz you may need to pay more in future if there is severe problem on your right ankle. Maybe you can try walking instead but it would be better if you could consult a doctor on the type of exercise you can do based on your condition.

Hmm.. not a very good idea if you have a bad ankle.. I can think of better ways to lose weight ;)
As someone who specialise in helping people lose weight quickly and safely, I think the best way to lose weight is to do a detox.
I lost 15kg within 2 mths doing the detox. You can read more here and see my before and after pics with my fav tv stars:

Running with a dodgy ankle - bad idea. Strap up the ankle and walk briskly instead of running. You know your body better than anyone. If walking also hurts your ankle then try cycling.
One hour everyday of either exercise would be good. Plus of course, cut off your carbs, include low fat dairy products in your diet and lots of fruit and vegetables. Make sandwiches using lettuce instead of bread. Good Luck.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

loosing weight more than 2 to3 kg a month is not advisable. and u say u need to loose 20 kg .that means u are over weight. running is not advisable. it can damage your knees in the long run. it is better u do cycling. go on sauna bath . if u can attend yoga classes . losing weight can loosen your skin and strech marks may appear. so try taking more liquids. seek the advice of a good dietician. more over u have a bad right ankle. stop cycling if it hurts. try swimming.if any thing doesnt work. . it is said that u loose a spoon of your weight when u swim for 30 mins

Ok some ppl dont know wat the hell there talking about.
My best recommendation is to find a balanced diet of all the dietary needs. Try to cut back on induldging on sweets or junk food. ANd fast food is a no no.
For exercise a low impact, highly vigorious workout is swimming. Its a very good way to lose weight easily. Since running is hard on the ankles, and knees, swimming is a good alternative. You might feel "some" unpleasures, but is a better alternative method to working out than running. It will not only lose weight, but increase heart condition, lung power will increase, but also muscle endurance and strength will increase. Its a good way to get stronger and healthier at the same time.
edit: also, like others have said earlier, have a moderate calorie intake. Calories is wat your body uses to move, and operate. Once your body uses those calories, it will move onto fat. however, your body first needs to have calories jump-start that operation. Most ppl dont lose weight when they starve themselves and work out a lot. It works opposite, wat you do eat when u rarely eat, will pack on more weight on purpose, cuz your body goes into emergancy mode and will do anything for energy.
