I used to live in Detroit which is very close to Canada and caught the Canadian news sometimes, but I have never while living there nor after I left, ever heard of Canada being involved in a war except when the Blue Jays went to the World Series. Does anyone else recollect of a time in recent decades ?

They are part of the U.S.-led coalition of the war in Afghanistan and are still there in a combat role as we speak. They did not and do not directly support the US in Iraq since the war was never approved with the UN. But since they do support the US in Afghanistan and relive some of the troop and military demand of the US military there, it allows the US to have more troops in Iraq.

So, anyways I think that counts as pretty current.

Canada was involved in WW1 and WW2, they contributed largely to world war 2. For a large time they had a large airforce because america pushed planes just within centemetres of the border, and a canadian would come across and "steal the plane" allowing the canadians to re-stock and allowing the americans to sit the war out until 1940.

Canada was involved in both gulf-wars and was the third largest contributer to the afganistan war. As of january 2006 canadian defence took control of afganistan and all coalition forces including 20,000 canadian, british and australian forces and the 20,000 U.S troops in afganistan, are commanded by and have policy dictated by the canadians. So it is important to understand that they are not supporting U.S troops so much as U.S troops are supporting them.

They are also involved in peacekeeping operations along with countries of the same size, (e.g Aus, NZ). The U.S does not contribute to peacekeeping (u.n) as their military is already on full rotational deployment (too many soldiers overseas in middle east, korea, and forward dedployed to allow)

The actor who played Scotty in the original Star Trek series actually stormed Normandy with the Canadian Army on D-day. God bless his soul.
The Canadians were very involved with the initial phase of the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

They're really a peaceful bunch. They don't get involved in much of anything, which is actually quite smart. Everyone just pretty much leaves them alone, too.

I think they might have the right idea...

Some good people there, I knew some in NATO in 1984, but far too many leftist idiots there too. Still, much better than French pacifists.

Yes they were involved in WWII, they helped storm the beaches on D-Day, and they had special forces in France.

Yes, my father-in-law was at Normandy. But I believe at that time that Canada was under British rule, or however you say that.
