It's the lyrics, not the beat, volume, or genre.
I am not one who believes it is "of the devil" .. HOWEVER ... it does concern me (as a mother, a human being, and a christian) that many lyrics cause increased frustration, anger, depression, that can cause people to do things or act in ways they might not otherwise.

Lyrics and music that glorify violence, hatred, anger, rape, and the like cannot help but be detrimental to those who listen to it constantly, as well as to society in general.

To me, the kind of music has nothing to do it .. I personally love rock music, as well as other genres. It is all about the negative lyrics and attitudes inherent in some songs.

__________
Added Note:

Please be careful of generalizing "all christians", or "all old people", or whatever .. just as you would not want to be generalized as "all ___ whatever" ......

I agree that a lot of people make judgements without research or experience, but there are many many people who make the opinions they have based on a lot of research and many years of experience. Just because I have the opinion I do does not mean I am stupid, or ignorant, or don't understand. Remember, it was my generation that INVENTED rock music ... among other things.

Good day to all :)

We don't say ALL rock music is of the devil. Some certainly seems to be. Because some rock music has lyrics that are definitely anti-God, anti-Christian, death oriented crap.

As with a lot of rap music and hip-hop, which shares a similarly bad label in the Christian community for lyrics that promote death and evil.

What would you call music like that? Heavenly? I think not.

Well it's probably because, as you very well know, rock music was invented by African Americans, and they're causing quite a ruckus these days, what with their march on our nation's capital and their demands to de-segregate the school systems of the south. Plus, have you seen John Lennon lately (the hair, the clothes...)? And some of that stuff he writes is practically screaming at kids, "Go drop some acid!" And all those mothers (including mine) burning Beatle's albums is sure to incite more angry mobs to do the same--what? What do you mean it's not the sixties? This debate's dead and has been for years? Well not if I have anything to say about it...

Many Rock music in the 70s encourage teen sucide.
Mudering of your own parents..horriable stuff.
"Staire way to heaven" Play in reverse ,mentions about Satan...

People might said, don't be bias toward the music just stick to the music. My warning to you is please be careful what you listen to because it can brain wash you subconcisouly then you might start to head voices that tell you to do evil.
Read the lyrics before you buy.

There is nothing wrong with Rock Music,Rock music is a very powerful force to be use as good or evil is up to you.

I prefer to use it for good.

I am listening to the rock station on our local radio tonight. Here is an example of some of the lyrics that I've heard in the last hour:

I've got soul but I'm not a soldier

He doesn't look a bit like Jesus

I once was lost and now I'm blind

I'm sure there were many other lyrical examples in the rock songs that were aired, but I think you get the point. Christians should not judge rock music, when it often gives the exact reminders of faith in Christ (regardless of context)...that are useful to remain reminded.

(Oh..."the devil's party" is playing right now. Love and war? where do we belong? Fabulous song.

Yeah it's ridiculous. I'm a Christian. To me, rock music just consists of a guitarist, a bass guitarist, a drummer, and a vocalist, sometimes keyboards. Just like you find in any church! Like you said, Country music is no different in this reguard, and neither are classical musicians. There were muscians in the Bible who played instruments. Just musicians playing music, period. Nothing "evil" about music. However, it's the lyrical content through which evil & blasphemy can be preached. One must utilize common sense here. God gave us all distinct personalities though. Just like some people like pizza, and some don't. Some people like one style of music, others don't. I'm not gonna "judge" a talented musician's abilities to play their instruments though. God gives us our own gifts and talents. There's talented artists, and there's talented musicians. We all have a talent in one way or another. I myself have an electric guitar and an amp, and it's just a hobby of mine every now and then.

So, you artwork for their skills(?) agent or writer and try to "drum up" business enterprise? Wally: you're very incorrect. What some human beings call "Christian rock" picked up that nickname using fact it shares some STYLISTIC similarity with "rock" song. lots of it, fairly in greater modern-day contexts follows a consumer-friendly rhythm. A stylistic similarity would not effect the cost or usefulness of song used to compliment God, particularly that's a mirrored image of the distinctive cultures into which the church has unfold. using fact the early church unfold from the midsection East into Africa, the a strategies East, and Europe, each and each way of life tailored its very own musical varieties to be utilized in compliment and worship. No musical form is to any extent further useful or worse than yet another at praising God. If the song you utilize is something yet solo/unison or contrapuntal, that's something which has been extra or "created" on account that Biblical circumstances... The introduction of "modern-day" 4-area solidarity into Christian song became very modern-day using fact it became tremendously much unknown interior the sixteenth century. became 1500 years of "church song" unacceptable to God?

At Ephesians 5:10 Christians are told to "keep on making sure of what is acceptable to the Lord."
It is not just rock music that Christians need to be on guard against.Any music that is animalistic, demonic, glorifies hatred, abuse, sexual deviancy, suicide just to mention some, one needs to be weary of,as music affects our moods, emotions, atitudes and resultant behaviour.
As Christians we want to be striving to be better Christians. How would that be possible by listening to lyrics that talk about immoral sex, swearing etc?

It has been argued that rock-and-roll is inherently different from other kinds of music because the beat is inherently dangerous. They believe that the "anapestic" beat of rock music is antithetical to the human heartbeat and subversively destructive.

The argument is not limited to Christian sources. Some studies claim to have linked ill-effects to rock music and more positive effects to more tradition forms.
