This is for future referance, he's only 10 months now... When my dog gets older, I want to have a pup from him because he has the most wonderful personality, he has to be the dog they were thinking of when they said "a dog is man's best friend".

Oh... well, I'll have to see if I can't find him a girlfriend when I get back to the states! Do the breedings have to be successful, or just the attempt? I think 7 would be a good age...

Well, the "not a cookie cutter" comments are certainly a reversal on what the BSL people are saying! Lots of people came down on me when I got my boy because he was "a vicous breed" and I "didn't know the parents, so how do I know he will be alright?" So, which is it?

If you haven't breed him by 3 years don't breed him...have him fixed. If you breed him at least once a year you can retire him at about 5 to 7 years.................. No it doesn't have to be successful just the attempt is enough. It's just best for him to use "it" if you aren't going to fix him because he can develop health problems. The problem with waiting till he's 7 is that he can develop testicular cancer by then. He would need to be fixed just to save his life and even then if it's spread to his body there may not be much you can do. If you want to do it than it's best to do it young and get him fixed afterwords so he doesn't develop any health problems.

Breeding him will not necessarily give you a dog with the same personality. Are you a cookie cutter version of your parents? Or did you pick up traits from both as well as some of your own?

i dont know what you mean about an attempt being enough? the word attempt means it didn't happen? so as far as breeding to get another dog like the one you have is not a good idea as ALL dogs are different... that would be like saying all the kids in your parents family are the same! get it? you can get similar looks and even temperment, but personality is unique.

There are thousands upon thousands of dogs in the world that have "perfect" personalities. You do not need to breed your current dog in order to get one. There is strong evidence that most aspects of individual personalities are not even inherited, but rather a product of the environment the animal (or person) is raised in.

Please do the world a favor and get your dog fixed. He will lead a longer, healthier life if you do, so you will have even more time to spend with him. And HE would definitely rather spend more time with you than to simply be "replaced" by another dog after he dies from an illness that could have been prevented if he was fixed.

Additonally, what would you do with the extra puppies from the litter? It is not uncommon at all for dogs to have litters of up to 8 -10 pups. Thousands of dogs and puppies are killed every day in American shelters due to the fact that there simply aren't enough homes for them. Most of these dogs killed have personalities just like your dog and would do anything to be your best friend.

Please do not contribute to the problem of pet overpopulation and get your dog fixed (for his sake and everyone else's).

PS: Did I mention that fixed dogs usually have MUCH better personalities than unfixed dogs? This is because they don't have massive amounts of horomones coursing through their bloodstream telling them to protect large territories, wander long distances to find mates, or mount the nearest object in sight.
