If your kitten only got a little bit of pudding, he should be fine. It's bad for him, but he'll be OK. He's probably just being a kitten; or else it's the sugar.

Chocolate is poisonous to cats; but if they've had a toxic dose it won't make them "psycho"--they generally just show the usual signs of poisoning (vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc., or convulsions/unconsciousness for really big doses).

Another common food which is bad for cats is onions.

Many cats are lactose-intolerant, so if you want to give them milk, cat milk or lactose-free milk is best.

Human medicines can also be poisonous to cats, either in and of themselves or because the cat's so much smaller than a human... administer only on vet's recommendation and specific dosing information.

Awww... No,.. some cats prefer Chocolate Ice Cream or Shakes as their favorite treat. The Problem with Dogs is they will be big things with slow heart rates, go through tons and tons.... any Chocolate they can find,.. and then their Heart will Blow Out from the Caffine Rush.
Some times people have Chocolate Laxetives or chocolate hidden with medicaines for when they don't feel well and stuff (PMS) or need to take certain meds.

If your Kitten loves Chocolate Pudding, let them have some,.. but the MILK IN IT is what your going to have to worry about,.. some cats go Wackey from Milk and Milk makes cats have bad Diareah,.. this is why you give small portions (unless they do not have any allergic reactions).

Well, just think - it takes them over 20 times as long to clear the caffeine in chocolate from their system than it would take a person - and it has a much stronger effect. From that amount, it should be okay after a day or two, but larger amounts can kill them.

I've heard that chocolate isn't as bad for cats as it is for dogs. Dogs can apparently die from eating chocolate. My kitten's name is Psycho and though he lives up to that name, just because he eats a bit of chocolate ice cream, he isn't more so. I don't think a little bit will hurt him.

Talented kitten to get the lid off. lol.

Hi there...chocolate is toxic to cats. Chocolate can be toxic, and sometimes even fatal, for animals. Dogs are most commonly affected, due to their ability to find it and the common 'sweet tooth' they seem to have. It is important to remember that cats and other species are susceptible to the toxic effects of chocolate, too.

heobromine, a component of chocolate, is the toxic compound in chocolate. (Caffeine is also present in chocolate, but in much smaller amounts than Theobromine.)
Theobromine's effect on the body:
- Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant
- Cardiovascular stimulant
- Increase blood pressure (mild)
- Nausea and vomiting

Some chocolates more toxic than others. Unsweetened (baker's) chocolate contains 8-10 times the amount of Theobromine as milk chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate falls roughly in between the two for Theobromine content. White chocolate contains Theobromine, but in such small amounts that Theobromine poisoning is unlikely. Caffeine is present in chocolate, but less than Theobromine.

Signs are most commonly seen within 12 hours (or less) of chocolate ingestion.

- Excitement / nervousness / trembling
- Vomiting / diarrhea
- Excessive thirst / sometimes excessive urination (at higher levels of Theobromine toxicity)
- Muscle spasms
- Seizures
- Coma (rare
- Death (rare) -- likely due to heart rhythm abnormalities.

If you suspect that your pet has eaten chocolate (more than the stray chocolate chip that fell on the floor), call your veterinarian for advice. The toxicity of Theobromine is dose dependent. This means that the size of your pet, the type of chocolate, and quantity of chocolate determine if or how toxic it is for your pet.

There is no specific antidote for Theobromine toxicity. Medical treatmentis supportive, and may include all or some of the following:

IV fluids - to prevent dehydration from vomiting, diarrhea, and /or increased urination, and to "flush" the Theobromine out of the system.

Emetics - medications that induce vomiting. Used when the ingestion of chocolate is within 4 hours. Up to 6-8 hours post chocolate ingestion may be effective.

Activated charcoal - for ingestion greater than 4 hours prior to treatment, or for patients that show continued signs of toxicity.
Anti-seizure medications - for patients having seizures and/or muscle tremors.

Cardiac medications - for patients exhibiting irregular heart rates or rhythms.

Is Chocolate Toxic To Cats

2017-02-23 14:58:06 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Cats don't usually ingest enough chocolate to poison themselves severely. It is toxic for them and as you have learned can be stimulating. Dogs are frequently severely poisoned by chocolate as they will ingest great quantities of it at one time.
