Actually, foods high in uric acid are organ meats and beer and other rich foods. This is why Gout was referred to as the King's disease because other people couldn't afford such foods. The RN is right however, they're not sure now if Gout is actually caused by diet. It also depends on if you're are an overproducer or an under excretor. Meaning if your body produces too much uric acid or if you just don't get rid of the normal amount of uric acid. Both are usually very treatable with allopurinol. However, gout attacks can be one of the most painful things one can experience often leaving the sufferer unable to walk (if in the toes or ankle). Gout can also be realted to kidney stones (uric acid kidney stones).

Turkey, spinach and red wine are some foods that have been blamed for causing high uric acid & gout. I understand that there is now doubt that diet causes gout, but I don't know any of the specifics.
