In yoga and zen-budo the physical practice is combined with a meditative tradition. The experiences produced as a result of physical and meditative practice can 'open' an individual's being so that one's contact with the world can manifest itself in a new way. The experiences can be existentially significant and constitutive. These experiences can change one's way of seeing the world. I call that metamorphosis the deconstruction of the ego. That 'mystical' experience of transcendence or enlightenment changes one's life. The perennial philosophy calls this changing transcendental wisdom gnosis (known as prajna in yoga and zen) that transforms the individual and reconstitutes the relationship between the individual and the world in an emancipatory manner.
