I'm not sure about Australia but t the great thing about buddhism is it doesn't have things you can and can't do, it just states that there will probably be consequences for it later. As for marriage I was never quite clear on that either, but I know the Buddha promoted all forms of selfless love, I guess that could be accompanied by marriage?
