to answer your question ask your self this: who would you choose to spend the next 50 years with: a hot girl/guy who is dumb as a brick OR an intelligent girl/guy who's not as good looking?
the overall purpose of dating is to find the person you'll eventually end up marrying and living with for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE....so in the long run looks are irrelevant because they will only fade over time, it's what's on the inside that will last

Some guys do, some don't. Most guys base looks off of how they're going to feel for a girl, but some get to know the girl as a friend first and find out that they like her, whether she's pretty or not. It can also be flipped over to the same situation for girls. It all depends on the person.

It's not that big of deal to me. I prefer a woman to have qualities that are beyond their appearance. Qualities such as intelligence, personality, sense of humor, etc. Looks won't get too far in any kind of relationship if you don't have the other qualities and looks often soften with time. Intelligence, personality and other qualities tend to deepen and improve over time. Almost all of the women I've dated weren't the best looking but they had other qualities that I liked about them. So, to repeat myself, looks are not that big of a deal to me.

Younger guys (say, 20 and under) tend not to always exercise the best judgement and are more taken in by physical appearance. As guys mature they come to know themselves better, and to understand better what they want in a woman. They learn that outer good looks are far less important than inner beauty.

Not a big deal, but there must be at least some attraction. Most guys care, if they say otherwise they are probably lying.

Looks are the starting point for many. It's like getting your foot in the door. Personally, I think a pretty woman who is not nice is not as attractive as someone who is kind and funny. Beauty is not only skin deep! It's fun to look at really gorgeous people but would you really want to be with one?

Yes and no..I mean we would all love to have that gorgeous model to show off..But then reality sets in and you realize they probably have no personality no intelligence or you just can't really afford her and you end up going for the girl next door with a great personality.
Looks are important to a degree. But over all personality and intelligence are the most important.

For some its the only issue. For most its only moderately important.
Good looks don't make up for a woman being a total ***** or high maintenance.
There's a say that goes something like 'No matter how good looking she is somewhere there's some guy who is tired of putting up with her crap'.

Looks are only a small part of it. If you are in love, looks really only mean about 5%. Not even. If you're looking more for fun, they matter a lot more. However the amount of importance really depends on the individual. For me? Looks matter a bit.

Well heres the thing...all guys like to be attracted to the girl they're with, BUT all guys also have a different version of what is attractive. I know guys that only date blondes or only date brunettes, I know guys that like flat-chested girls and guys that like girls to be a little heavy. Even if you're not what is traditionally considered beautiful...you're probably someone's type.
