This just happened in our family. A 3 yr old girl swallowed a penny, the mother saw it happening but couldn't stop it in time. The Dr's assssured her that what goes down, "will" come out. And sure enough it did, about 4 days later................

If its a little coin the baby willprobably pass it in a bowel motion. If it is too big, it may require surgery. In either case, see a doctor

My brother pooped out a nickel when he was about 4 years old. I'm not sure about a baby. Depends how old the child is.
If you are concerned, call your doctor's office and talk to whoever is on call.

If you swallow a penny, you need to get your stomach pumped.
When the pennies were copper, they would pass through.
Now they are zinc and the acids in your stomach create a poison

They usually poop it out, but it can get stuck in the throat and prevent breathing.
