Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It's just so easy to start thinking that just one won't hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don't have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here's a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It's not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something', which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.
After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.

Congratulations for not smoking for 11 days. There is some improvement in your health, as you say, so try to be patient. Try to drink lots of liquids, and sleep and rest as much as you can. These two things help your body recover from infection and clean up the toxins taken in with smoking. Your brain needs the rest also, to recover from probably years of being under the stimulant effects of nicotine. Some light walking is all right, but I would not recommend any heavy duty exercise when you feel light headed and you have an infection. Feeling lightheaded may also be a part of the symptoms some of which we all go through when quitting smoking. Just hang in there, you know, you are doing the right thing and should be proud of yourself. It is OK to see your doc again if you find things are not going quite right. Get well soon!

Cut each cigarette to half. Throw away half. Smoking will be reduced to 50 %. Then throw away other half, do not count how many halves you are left with. In 5 days smoking shall be 10%. After that it is difficult to make it zero, but go on trying.

Talk to ur friends or to a doctor
look for comericals that are helping people stop smoking.
If ur a person who smokes alot then and those medicen don't help then eat something that has sugar in it and can hype u up for long.
GET SUPPORT FROM UR BEST FRIENDS!
BUT DON'T FORGET TO EXERCISE!

Talk to your doctor; there is excellent medication available to help you quit; also the patch works for some folks, cold turkey works for some folks, and gum works for others.
I quit, it wasn't easy, but over two years smoke free - I quit cold turkey.

You have reached the stage of needing to stop.
good on you. It is difficult and some of us need a bit of help. Try Zyban tablets, they do it for you. You will need a doctors prescription. they helped me after being a heavy smoker for 40 years. It's now been 5 years and I'm proud of myself. You will be too. It feels good to say " no thanks, I don;t smoke" GOOD LUCK

if you were a patient of mine I could ask a lot of questions and work out a plan for you. But this is not the place to do this. You could try your doctor or pharmacist Monday.

It takes determination and trust me it's hard. Get the patch or something to help with the cravings. My new addiction is gum, but better than a ciggie.

On the Ellen show the other day she got hypnotised and that worked for her. I don't smoke myself, so I don't know. But good luck kicking that yucky habit!

you live in this world.
you know as much as the rest of us do.
pick a method and make a conscious decision to give it your best effort. and ask your doctor to help. if one method isn't working for you, doc will help you find another.
