There are plenty of people who think they are 'true christians', the majority of them have misinterpreted the bible.

A true christian would be someone who is devoted to Christ and God, but not thru some tradtion of men. The Bible is all we need(2 Tim 3:16-17). No tradition of men or some misticism is going to help you become a true christian only the Bible. The best way to start is to have your sins washed away, you know be baptized(Acts 2:38, 8: 36-39 22:16).
God Bless and hope this helps,
Chris
2 Tim. 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, [17] so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I'm not sure on the concept of a true Christian. I think a Christian is just somone who strives to live up to the teachings of Jesus. This means that you do not judge. It also means you open your arms to sinners and you forgive. You try to do for others.
The problem is that most people who call themselves Christian don't even come close to living up to Christian values. Most of the ones I've known have been the absolute worst gossips and I've seen them turn their backs on the people who need the most compassion and help. In fact, most of the people who don't even follow the Christian faith live up to the values better than the people who say they are Christian.

Im sorry to say this but "Adam's" answer is wrong. A true Chriastian is one who believes in the one and olny true God and His Son, Jesus Christ. But because we were still sinners, Christ gave up His glory with God and came to earth to live among men(Romans 5:8). Why would He do this? Because we were lost in sin and eternal damnation(Romans 6:23)! But God's only son came to live among us as a human. The only difference was that He never sinned. And, because He loved us so much, He subjected Himself to die in the most humiliating form, on the cross. His death accomplished what no other could. He was the sacrifice without blame, the spotless lamb. And when the spotless lamb(Jesus) was sacrificed upon the cross, all sins were forgiven, past, present, and future, for those that belive in Him(I Jhn 1;9). If you believe that He did this to relieve your sins and the sins of the world, that is a ture Christian. There is only ONE God, ONE Heaven, and ONE WAY to get there, Jesus Christ(John 14:8?) That help? I hope it does. The stuff in parentheses, if you don't know, are Bible verses

"A Christian is a man who feels Repentance on a Sunday For what he did on Saturday And is going to do on Monday" This is what now a Christian is! In real sense i.e. according to the word of Jesus Christ, a True Christian must be like that Good Samaritan [Luke 10: 30 - 37]. During His short journey of life, Jesus has taught us some excellent parables and examples to continue in our life. It was not to become as perfect as Jesus Christ, but He taught us for being a perfect human being, a social animal. Otherwise we have to satisfy ourselves that, the first and last Christian had died on the Cross, the Jesus Christ.

A true Christian is someone who has been born-again. Like Jesus talks about in John chapter 3. Also, it has nothing to do with sin or godliness. A born again christian is someone who is fully reliant on Christ for their salvation and they know that they are saved by grace through faith - and not by good works. God says our good works are as filthy rags. And if good works are going to come through a Believer it is the work of God and the believer will not even know they are doing good works.

There are many descriptions of what a true Chistian is in the book of 1 John. John states very clearly how a TRUE Christian is to live thier life. I will list a few passages for you, but I suggest that you study this book.
1 John 3:6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him.
1 John 4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
John was a very close friend of Jesus and what he is saying is very similar to the teaching of Jesus.
Mat 7:16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Do not be fooled by counterfiets. You will know them by their deeds.

The words "true Christian" depend on who you are talking to. A Calvanist is unlikely to believe a liberal Methodist to be a "True Christian". In my opinion (not a Christian), I believe a "True Christian" to be one who loves and is devoted to Christ, to the extent that he or she strives to understand His teachings, and strives to live as closely to that model as possible. They have surrendered their wills to Christ.
Those that go about bragging their faith, putting down non-believers, showing hatred and disdain for other faiths or lifestyles are not showing the love of thier saviour. A "True Christian" is humble, loving and dedicated to their master. They know that only God can judge, and that witnessing is different from prosecuting. They are confident in their salvation wihtout being cocky.

Wrong.
There is an Area in the Christian Walk where to GOD Almighty, you appear Sinless.
It is called Walking in Holiness.
When you get Saved, you are a Child of GOD.
You are a Christian in your Spiritman.
But, unless you are Walking in Holiness, you Really aren't Christian in the Soul and Body.
And the World can Tell.
The Power of GOD, Signs and Wonders will Follow a Child of GOD (Christian in the Spirit) who is Walking in Holiness (Christian in the Soul and Body too).
If you are not Walking in Holiness, you can be Called a CARNAL CHRISTIAN.
Hope this helps.
p.s. it is Hard to Walk in Holiness.

The "No true Scotsman" fallacy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman
And there is no crime that a true Christain "would not do"
The term is also used to feed the egos and to enforce the indoctination of cultlike sects, not only are they made to fear and shun the thoughts of nonbelievers but of other christians too. They are told that their own narrow and often false doctrine is the only truth, and that others are not "true" xtians and inspired by the Devil.
