I've been with my boyfriend for 3 years and we're both young, only 16. But he's always been pushing to be a Marine. I guess these days, the whole idea of him being gone is a lot closer to reality. He's been talking to a recruiter, going to PT and all this. Basically it's been set that he'll join since he has nowhere else to go.

It's kind of depressing knowing he'll be gone in 2 years or so. I want to hear about the experiences you've been through. Anything really. I want to know what it's all like.

Dear Miss Bite Me.

I'm not the one to b*tch but what's with all the hate? x_x'' I just wanted to know about experiences. No hard feelings, no insults right? I didn't really want someone to come in here and insult me or any others.

And I'm sorry that my boyfriend doesn't have the same reason as your "DH" but you know what, he does it all so that when the time comes, he can say that he can support me. That he can make something of himself and be able to be there for me. I think that should earn some respect.

I'm a Marine wife!!! Matt and I met in high school and he left after he graduated for bootcamp... well after bootcamp, MOS, and 2 years in Japan we finally got married. Then we lived on base together for a month before he went to Iraq for 7 months. He's home now and we'll be getting out this June. It's been really really really hard, but we've made it this far. E-mail me sometime by clicking on my profile. Also, I have a website if you wanna check it out. http://www.freewebs.com/semperfi8487

I am a military wife. We have been married 4 years and in that time I have only spent 11/2 years with my husband. The good side of being a military spouse is you get to travel around the world. My husband is now a colonel and will retire in about a year and he is only 40. I know how you feel...but you can always keep in touch via fone, emails.

Well i was a military girlfriend.

But he broke up with me because he didn't want me to wait for him. He wanted me to go and live my life to the fullest.

We have a friend in common and he says that things will change once he comes back. We were after one another for the longest time. But i know he didn't need to be worrying about me right now.

*only time will tell if we will get back together...we still talk and are still friends......and i would have waited*

It will be an adjustment...but the thing is, your BF needs to know you are behind him in whatever decision HE makes. Also, just joining because he has nowhere else to go OR just for the College monies....well, I have no respect for that....Mine Joined because he wanted to Serve his Country....

******to sweety...sorry but I don't buy it that your DH is a Col at age 40...unless he scammed his way up. I am prior Military and my DH is currently Serving....and the Col's WE know are in their late 50's to early 60's in age...

go to military.com and post a question to the marines on there discussion boards. you will get tons of answers. but for the marines, u need to be in great physical shape ( and i mean GREAT) loved to be yelled at, punched and made to do some silly things (not in a good way). man bootcamp is fun ; )

I think that it is a great experience. My husband just left this evening to Iraq for a year tour. It is hard, but fun as well.
