When I was a kid, every neighborhood had at least one beagle. Now I don't see these dogs anywhere anymore. Everyone has pitbulls. Why don't people love nice, friendly dogs anymore?

Both pitbulls and beagles can be friendly or mean. It has nothing to do with the dog it is the people. People prefer pitbulls over beagles becuase that whole gangster **** is in I guess and its cool to have some tough dog rather then something cute, at least in this ghetto area that I live in lol. But to make it short it isn't the dog it is the person who choses the dog.

Dog ownership has fads just like anything else. For a while beagles were super-popular, since they are very friendly. Unfortunately, beagles are also VERY noisy, tend to be neurotic if not given sufficient attention, and have major appetites.
Pit bulls tend to be mostly popular with younger people (male especially) who think they're cool due to the fact that they're very common in urban and poor areas where a lot of rappers either come from or rap about. For the rest of us, nice friendly dogs are still the norm, although the favored dogs now tend to be retrievers or mixed-breeds.

Excuse me! Pitbulls are pretty nice dogs.
And there are still lots of beagles around. I believe that many people decided that a beagle was not the perfect family dog, because they are scent hounds and that takes over in any given situation. And that means they have a hard time with the command "Come".

A lot of people are big into protection now. Beagles were too friendly for some people. I love friendly dogs. They are much easier to take care of when the come to see the vet.

Go to your local animal shelter. There are a lot of homeless beagles there. People don't love nice friendly dogs anymore because a beagle doesn't have the "status" a pit bull does.

PitBulls are nice, friendly dogs. But Beagles aren't lost, there are losts where I live. In fact, I would have to say that they ands Pitties are the most popular breeds around here... at least, *on* base....

There are still a lot of beagles. Some dogs lose their popularity when another breed gains the spotlight.

Maybe it's a regional thing. There are tons of dogs in my neighborhood and like 1/3 of them are Beagles. I personally can't stand them because they bark and howl so much.

You don't live in Northern California do you? There was a raid on a puppy mill (or something) and there are hundreds of them up for grabs.
Yeah, Pitt Bulls are everywhere it seems.
