39:3] Absolutely, the religion shall be devoted to GOD alone. Those who set up idols beside Him say, "We idolize them only to bring us closer to GOD; for they are in a better position!" GOD will judge them regarding their disputes. GOD does not guide such liars, disbelievers.

[39:4] If GOD wanted to have a son, He could have chosen whomever He willed from among His creations. Be He glorified; He is GOD, the One, the Supreme.

Idols are not mediators because they are idols, and nothing more.

There's an interesting Jewish Midrash (a story) about Abraham and idols. Abraham's father owned a shop which made and sold idols. One day, to teach Abraham business, Abraham's father lets Abraham run the shop for a day. When Abraham's father returns, he finds all of the idols smashed, except for the biggest idol, which is standing in the corner. Abraham's father demanded an explanation for this. Abraham exlaimed, "The big one got angry and killed the other ones!" Abraham's father said to Abraham, "Son, don't be so foolish! They're just idols! They can't do anything!" Abraham replied, "Exactly, father, so why do you worship them?" I love that story because it teaches an important lesson: idols can do nothing. Only God has that power.
