My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost two years now. I will be twenty in June, and she's 19. Before I get answers on being too young, and whatever else, I am a sopohmore at Stanford University, and I acknowledge that school is the most important thing. We don't plan to actually get married until after graduation. I would love to propose to my girlfriend in the next year or so, I think, but I'd like some input on creative/fun ways to do it. I've never been one to follow the norm, so the whole one knee thing doesn't work for me.

Also, what about this idea? I'd like to take the families out to dinner where there's a live band, and sneak away. Then I'd like to borrow the mike and talk about something completely unrelated, and then say, "Do you mind if I embarass my girlfriend for a minute?" and then go from there. What do you think?

Dazzle me.

First I think your on the right track in waiting to get married after school, and waiting to propose. I def love creative proposals. Although I think public proposals are tacky and uncomfortable. It is supposed to be a moment that is special and when other people are involved it can be stressful for the both of you. I think private proposals are awesome. Although after she says yes, I don't think it would be bad to do the whole family and live band bit. It shows that you are willing to show anyone you love her. Make your proposal personal to the both of you. If you both love fish then get her an aquarium with rocks that spell out marry me(with fish of course in it as well). Or if you both are musical write her a song and in it ask her to be your wife. Do something that fits the two of you. Although make the whole day leading up to the proposal fun and exciting.
If you have some creative ideas and you want to run them past me feel free, I love it.

Is your girlfriend a really shy person who would resent being put in the spotlight in front of a whole lot of people? If not, that sounds like a good idea. Kudos to you for wanting to be creative. Bon chance (that means good luck) !

I make baskets for a living you know a basket with a teddy a bottle of champagne and some candles. I got the idea to have someone WHO makes candles put he ring inside a candle and light them and have a great time with the teddy and all and keep your eye on the candle when the ring is about to fall out say what is that? and the rest is history.

Do you call that creative?
I thought Stanford had creative people, I don't see how they let you in.
