It's not the vinegar at all, which actually many mustards don't even contain. Yellow mustard is bright yellow because it contains turmeric, which is used as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. I won't speak on whether it's a true burn remedy, I've always been taught the best cure is cool water, but if one chooses to use mustard the turmeric and the cold would likely lend to its healing properties.

Mustard doesn't help to heal burns, but on the other hand, toothpaste does help to heal burns.

Actually, I use Coleman's powdered mustard, mixed with a bit of water obviously. That contains no vinegar whatsoever, but works amazingly well. I don't even blister

Silly, it is not the mustard that healed it. It was the dog licking the mustard off that made it heal.

Vinegar. Vinegar will 'take the burn out'. I suggest using that next time, mustard can stain and be a b**** to get out of fabric!!
