Dogs are pack animals. They need companionship. Plain and simple. Some breeds are needier than others, but no breed of dog will be happy alone outside for the majority of its life. Unless you plan to acquire two dogs, so they can keep each other company, please don't get just one dog with the intentions of leaving the dog outside, alone.
Dogs who are in this situation find ways to amuse themselves that often are unacceptable. Barking at neighbors, digging, tearing up anything they can get to, howling, etc. The dogs do this out of sheer boredom and sometimes from fear.
It doesn't matter how nice of a kennel the dog is housed in, they will not be happy alone. If you don't have the lifestyle that will accomodate a dog inside, please at least consider getting a pair of dogs who will be companions to each other.
Of course, you might simply obtain TWO dogs who develop bad habits, as they don't have a positive role model (YOU) to show them the proper way they should behave, dogs who will egg each other on to worse and worse behavior...
In all honesty, you are talking about spending 200 minutes a week with walks and say one whole hour of grooming, out of the possible 10080 minutes a week. What is the dog going to do with the other 9880 minutes (164 hours!) in that week?
Destroy property and disturb neighbors, that's what!

If you can only play with the dog 20 minutes a day and will be outside all the time, what is the use of getting the dog? It does not sound like you have the time to be a good attentive pet owner, they need attention and socialization, otherwise you will have a lonely depressed dog...get a fish!! I am not intending to be rude..but you really need to read what you wrote and re-think getting a dog....

Why do you want a dog when it will be living a lonely life by itself. Dogs need and want love and companionship. They are pack animals. What is the sense to have one when you are going to put it out back, out of sight, in a cage, alone and lonely. They are breathing feeling creatures that feel pain. Please think about this before considering a pet. They live for a lot of years and need allot of attention and care. They also cost money for vet check ups, shots and treatment when sick. Are you ready to make the commitment. They are like taking on a child that will never grow up.

Go to the pound and save a life. Get a large dog. Small dogs should not live outside. Large breeds can withstand the extreme in weather where a small dog cannot.

why not get a medium size dog. The large dogs like the scooby doo dogs demands a lot of attention but are really cute. Small dogs will do well but medium size dogs are a good choice. I don't know what breed you like because you have not stated what you like but i can advise what size is suitable.
I hope i helped you out.

Husky or Lab... rescue dogs, who would be use to the cold, other than that, dog's want to be close to or near owner, for either company or protection.
You would need a dog that's not hyper, and has its own personality and not feel neglected by being left outside.

Norwegian elkhound. They are playful, dependable, loyal, and have thick coats so their made for the cold!!
You would probably want to get a dog w/ a thick coat if where you live gets really cold.

A border collie would be ideal. They are very smart and can adjust well in outdoor weather. Although like you said when it gets very hot or cold you should bring it in.

go to a shelter and get a dog there. hundreds of perfectly sweet animals are euthanized each year because no one gives them a chance. all of my dogs are rescues. they are wonderful. you'll find a good one.
only do this if you really want a dog.
DO NOT KEEP IT OUTSIDE thats cruel. don't get one if you're going to treat it like that.
